Nils Sjögren

Hello!
I'm a middle aged mathematics teacher, who is always keen on adventure, seeing new places and learning more. If I, in the process, am able to help a few of my students to learn a bit as well, I'm very happy.
I live in a flat in Stockholm with my wife.
Our two daughters has moved to other flats in the city, but comes and visit us on sundays.
Before I embarked on my teaching carrier I was working as a mathematician at the university of Stockholm, ten years, and before that I worked with visual art, ten years as well.
My main interests are colours, horror movies, shadows, infinity, poetry and gymnastics.
I've been living in Stockholm for fourty eight years, and in Scotland for half a year, 1999.
Otherwise I'm just a humble spectator of the world, and it will be enormously fun to visit India for the first time of my life.

Eva Lundberg

Hello!

My name is Eva Lundberg and I am one of four teachers in our group. This is actually my fourth trip to Goa connected to internationalization projects (SIDA: Athena and Atlas). I really look forward to bringing this group of enthusiastic young people to beautiful, hospitable Goa.

I am a teacher of Health and Care-related subjects; medicine, ethics, social care. I also teach Religion, a subject that I find most fascinating and have indulged in at university.

I am a trained nurse and have largely had my focus on infectious diseases.

Nature and wild life is very important to me, as it is to many Swedish people. I feel connected to oceans, love to sail and to be near water (or in it). Photography is another interest, which I hope to develop more when retired.

I am convinced that exchange projects are a great investment for individuals, schools, nations and of course in a more global aspect. Many of my former students have expressed their gratitude of having had the possibility to be a part of the projects. One student stated: “I have never learned so many important things in such a short time”.

My expectations for projects like these are that young people should get to know other cultures, create understanding of ways of life not entirely similar to their own, create longlasting friendships and deepen their interest in global issues.

When I was young space was filled with Beatles, Rolling Stones, hippies

and rumours of secluded beaches in Goa where you could be together in an alternative style of life and look for Truth and meaning of life. I was not part of that movement – but I was devoted to the Beatles.

On my free time I like to hang out with friend and play football . I have a very big interest in music and I love to bake cakes. I want to go to Goa to see how the health and care system works over there. I´m also interested in seeing their culture and religion with my own eyes.

Carolina Chamoun

Hello!
My name is Carolina Chamoun and I´m a 17 year old girl who lives in Stockholm, in a small town called Salem. I’m a 2nd grade health and care student at Tullinge Gymnasium. I want to  help people around me and do my best to make them happy and feel safe and healthy and that’s why I chose the health and care program. When I’ve completed my 3 years at Tullinge gymnasium I will be an auxiliary nurse, but my future plan is to continue studying at College and train to be a midwife. This has been my dream for a long time. In my free time I like to hang out with my friends and family and do fun things. I also love to dance, sing and listen to music in my free time.

I have always dreamt of travelling and working abroad, and India is definitely first on the list. So now I finally get the chance to go there and see how it looks. It's a great opportunity to actually deepen one’s knowledge of both one’s own and another culture, and get an insight into how different living conditions and expectations can affect people's opportunities and quality of life.  Such knowledge is also one of the most important tools to develop and to create a better future.

I feel strongly that I will grow tremendously as a person in doing this and that I will have lot of completely unforgettable experiences to take home with me. I will get to see a different culture and be part of human encounters. I will learn something about how health care can work abroad. I will hopefully get a larger and more burning heart for the people who do not have it as good as us in Sweden.

Sophie Hesselgren Roche

Hello!

My name is Sophie and I’m a 17 year old girl who lives in the outskirts of Stockholm, in a little town called Tullinge. I live with my mum Christine and my cat Lufsen in a semidetached house where I’ve been living all my life.

At school I study the health and care program, which I enjoy very much! When I graduate I’m going to be a fully trained auxillary nurse, but my goal is to continue studying at Collage and train to be a midwife. That has been my dream ever since I was a little girl and that’s why I chose the health and care program. On my free time I like to hang out with my friends and do fun things with them like go to the movies have sleepovers and go to parties. I also like to exercise quite a lot and that’s why I go to Thai boxing about 3 times a week. I also have a gym card at our schools gym.

I want to go to Goa because I think it’s a great opportunity for me to learn more about the Indian society and how it compares to Sweden. I’ve never been to India or any place like it so I think this will be a life changing experience for me. Just to see Goa’s culture and experience there traditions will be very exciting. To see the difference in their health and care system is also a reason why I want to travel to Goa. I’ve experienced the Swedish hospitals and even worked at a Swedish old people’s home but I have no idea what the Indian hospitals and old people’s homes are like so this will be a great opportunity for me to learn more about it.

What I’m going to learn from this trip is probably mostly how different Goa is from Sweden. The people in Goa have quite a different lifestyle from us; a lifestyle that’s most likely more interesting than ours.  I will also get to make lots of new contacts from another culture; I think I will find this very rewarding.

A person that is very important in my life is Eric my grandfather. He is 92 years old and lives on his own in a flat in Oslo, Norway. One amazing thing about him is that he still works part time at arranging trips for pensioners. He means a lot to me because even if he’s 92 years old we have a great relationship.  I feel like I can talk to him about nearly everything and he’s always there to give me advice. I think he shows you that you just need to live a healthy lifestyle and to take care of yourself in order to have a great life.

Akosua Boahemaah

Hello!
My name is Akosua Boahemaa, but my friends call me Akos. I am an 18 year old girl living in Stockholm, Sweden. I am from a country called Ghana and it is located in the western part of Africa. I have been living in Sweden for 4 years now and it just gets better by the day.

I am currently going to a high school called Tullinge Gymnasium. It consists of 3 years of learning and I am in the second year. I am studying health and care program to become an auxiliary nurse.

Nobody knows what the future holds but with my education from high school I am planning to become a mid-wife. All I want to do is help people around me and do my best to make them happy and feel safe and healthy.

In my spare time I like reading Swedish books. I also like watching documentaries and medical series like Grey’s Anatomy, because it mainly shows how the patients are being treated and what is needed.

The main reason I want to be part of this project is because it has always been my dream to go to other countries and experience the different cultures and their way of life, and also the different religions and different people, because I love trying new things and this makes me very happy.

I want to learn everything I could possibly learn. I want to learn their culture, the way they think and their opinions to other cultures and especially Sweden. It would mean a lot for me to learn about their health and care since I have always wanted to work overseas and this would be a great opportunity. It also gives me a chance to think of how people live in different ways. I am sure this project will give me a different view on life and what I should appreciate.

One person that has a big influence in my life and has changed it for the better is my mother. She has been with me even before I was born and will be with me to death. She is one of the strongest people I know. Without my mother I don't know who or what I would be. She has raised me to be a strong and confident woman and respect people at the same time. She taught me that no one should change me and I should stand for what I believe in. she has always supported through all my choices and decisions in life but at the same time given me advice on what is right and wrong. Words cannot describe how much she means to me and that is why I have this drive inside of me to go to Goa and help, not only Goa but around the world.

Ida Andersson

Hi!
My name is Ida and I'm a 17 year old girl who live in the outskirts of Stockholm, in a small town called Tullinge. I've lived here my whole life, and I really enjoy it. I live with my mom, dad and big sister in a big villa just a 30 minutes walk from the school that I go to, Tullinge Gymnasium. I'm a in year 2 at the health and care program. I really like the school and I feel like I've chosen the right program. Because in the future I would like to work at the emergency care or something similar to that.

When I'm not at school I like to hang out with friends and work out. I go to gymnastics practice 3 times a week and I'm also a gymnastic coach to 7-12 year old boys.

The main reason I want to be a part of this trip is that I really like to see other people's culture and to understand how people with a different culture and background are thinking. Also I want to see how the health care works in India.

My idol and inspiration is, and has been for the last 4 years, Justin Bieber. As cheesy as it sounds, he has helped me through a lot and if I ever meet him I could never thank him enough.

Libin Ali

Hello!

My name is Libin Ali and I am an 18 years old girl who lives in Sweden for about 10 years now and I am from Somalia but I was born in Kenya which is quite close to Somalia. I live a bit outside of Stockholm with my mom and my six siblings whom one of them is my twin sister but unfortunately my dad does not live here in Sweden with us.

Right now I am studying at my second year in Tullinge gymnasium and I chose to study the health and care program, first when I chose the health and care program I wanted to become a surgeon and then I changed my mind to becoming a psychologist after that to a nurse, so at the first year I changed my mind a lot of times and i was unaware of what I wanted for my future but still today, it is difficult to decide, but one thing I know for sure is that in the future I want to work with people who need me and when I’m  done with this 3 years in Tullinge gymnasium I will be an auxiliary nurse.

After I graduate next year I’m planning on traveling around and my first destination will be Australia, there I want to work as an Au pair for like 3 months and then I just want to travel to south Africa, USA and around the world and experience different cultures and getting to know new people but when I’m finished traveling around I want to come back to Sweden and finish college then move to England because I love London and it’s one of my favorite city’s.
On my spare time besides studying I like to spend time with my friends and family as much as I can and doing stuff like watching movies go out and eat and just have fun, I love to play sports too I used to play soccer and basketball but It was a pretty long time ago since I played for a team instead I try to exercise a couple times every week now.

I want to go to Goa and participate in the project because it seems like a really good chance for me to develop both social hospitality to people from other cultures such as Goa and be able to look inside and learn how something’s are different than here in Sweden. I already know that this experience will be life changing and I will always look back and take knowledge from it.

Angelina Tuffour

Hi!

My name is Angelina Tuffour and come from Ghana in Western Africa. I’m a 2nd grade health &care student at Tullinge Gymnasium (high-school), which is very famous for its ambitious, high-educated teachers, staff, and a very suitable environment. I love listening to music, reading poems (love ones mostly), and walking through the nature; doing a mini “research” most of my free times.

The reason why I want to participate in this journey/project is because I’ve always loved to travel, to learn cultures of other countries and to develop some knowledge regarding societies and politics. I’ve heard a lot about India as a loving country which treat its tourist with love and joy. And it’s with such an amazement to be part of it.

My future plan is to take care of people. I find it hilarious and important at the same time to learn from other cultures and merge it with nursing-course later. Apart from working with human, IT is one of the things that I find interesting and fun. With today’s helpful instrument at hospitals and offices, IT seems very important and it’s easily combined with such jobs so to speak.

The person that has inspired me and is my idol is: my brother. He’s been there for me all the time since I was a child. We used to fight mostly but still he remembers me and fights for me.  I’ve always remembered the day he fell and broke his left arm, because he wanted to get me my shoes from the shelf. He’s inspired me because he’s always been there for people. And helped them.

Anna Lysell

Hello!
My name is Anna and I’m a 17 year old Swedish girl, who wants to be a midwife because I love children and I’ve heard that it is a great and fun job. On my spare time I like to exercise; I go to the gym a few times a week, but I also swim, run and go to group training when I feel like it. I also like to hang out with my friends and we usually do whatever we want to, like go to parties, have movie nights and other fun things.

I want to visit Goa to get some experience and have fun, and also see how they live. I want to learn how health & care looks like in other countries and lifestyles compared to Sweden. To develop my English is not wrong either. I’d like to see the differences between Sweden and India. For instance, I wonder how life is for the homeless people. Are there many of them? Is it like here in Sweden? I am really looking forward this trip in every way.

Amilia Virta

Hi!
My name is Amilia Virta, I am an eighteen year old girl who likes to be with friends and exercise on my spare time. Both my parents are Finnish, but at home we talk Swedish. When I graduate this summer I would like to continue studying to become a nurse. I would also later in my life, when I have finished my studies to go out and work as a volunteer in other countries. And it is also one of the good reasons why I wanted to participate on this project to Goa, to experience different cultures and to see if India would be a future job site. I think this trip will give me a lot of lessons about how they see the “whole person” and health care in other countries. Which hopefully will give me a lot of knowledge and a chance to meet peoples need better in the future.
